She was hull #77;
Sold to U. S. Navy on 5/30/1898 and commissioned as a patrol vessel on 6/22/1898; U.S.S. Enquirer served a patrol duty out of New York, between Newport, Rhode Island and Seabright, New Jersey until decommissioned on 8/9/1898; She was transferred to the War Department on 7/20/1899, and assigned to survey work in the Buffalo District, Corps of Engineers, on 8/28/1899; Rebuilt as a survey vessel for the U. S. Army Corps of engineers; Removed from documentation in 1941; Scrapped just above the New York Central Railroad Bridge at Port Clinton, Ohio, in 1942-1943;
