Chronology:: 1. 9/27/1851, Lake Erie, lost rudder and rudder post in a gale, towed into port and repaired, $1, 500 loss;
2. 00/00/1854, Lake Erie, machinery broken and repaired;
3. 5/00/1855, Long Point, Lake Ontario, ashore and released, (flour), $2, 000 loss;
4. 7/9/1855, Ashtabula, boiler exploded and repaired, (3 lives lost), $3, 000 loss;
5. 11/4/1856, Duck Island, Lake Ontario, sank and raised, (5 lives lost), towed to Grand Island off Kingston, $18, 000 loss;
6. 11/24/1856, a Steamer tried to tow the J. W. Brooks to Kingston, Ontario, but the wreck sank in deep water;
The J. C. Brooks was located in 80 feet of water, cargo recovered and vessel raised, then towed to Garden Island for
repairs;

General notes:: She was valued at $18,000, in 1864);
1860, Tug William was built at Garden Island in part from a wreck, (Propeller J. W. Brooks);
The vessel was broken up and destroyed as per information from Mr. Breck, one of the owners, (3/12/1878); She had the bottom of Propeller Brooks, (Marine Insurance, 1878);
(Propeller J. C. Brooks was sunken in 1857 and raised; She was towed to Garden Island and her bottom was used to build the Steamer, William in 1860. The William was then rebuilt in 1869 and broken up by 1878;)
