General notes:
*She was owned by the United States Topographical Service in 1845;
She was named for the head of Topographical Engineer Department;
She was converted from a Hunter Submerged Propeller to a Steamer in 1845; The plates were rolled at Cold Spring Iron Works, Cold Spring, New York, and shipped to Buffalo, where the vessel was put together at the foot of Ohio Street;
Machinery: (2) horizontal high pressure engines built by Bartol in 1843; (2) engines built by West Point foundry, 16' diameter x 26" stroke;
Wheels, 8' diameter, 22" depth, buckets extend 12", Hunter's submerged paddle wheels;
