*She was sometimes referred to as "President Adams."
**The vessel was noted on the lakes under the name Adams on, 6/25/1799, and carried 6 long six pounder guns during the war of 1812. (The Buffalo Gazette of 7/21/1812 reports that she carried a total of 18 guns.) The Adams was surrendered to the British on 8/16/1812 and renamed the Brig Detroit after being repaired at Detroit. The Americans captured the Detroit, but the British were quick to retake the vessel. The Detroit was moved down the Niagara River where she went ashore on Squaw Island. Fearing another attack, the British burned her on 10/8/1812 to prevent American salvage.
History of the Great Lakes states that she stranded on the outside of Squaw Island at Black Rock; Retaken by Americans on 10/9/1812, and burned the same day to prevent recapture;
Macpherson list the "Detroit" launched on 7/4/1812, armed with 14 guns;
